The Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuwade, Olubuse II, has challenged Nigerian elite to make sacrifice by coming out to help the country.
Oba Sijuwade made the appeal, on Wednesday, in his palace in Ile - Ife, Osun State, while receiving Chief Harry Ayoade Akande, a presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the 2011 general election.
The Ooni, while praising the spirit of nationalism in Chief Akande by joining politics to contest the presidential election, stated that his intention to contest the presidency was to help the country.
“The name of Chief Akande is as strong and tongue twisting as money itself. He has solid money and he is well known around the world. His decision to contest the presidency is to really help our country,” he said.
Oba Sijuwade, however, called on the elite to develop the spirit of nationalism and be prepared to make sacrifice to assist the country.
Speaking earlier, Chief Akande said that he was at the palace of the Ooni to receive spiritual blessings so that he would succeed in his presidential bid in the 2011 general election.
The business mongul, who said that he contested in 2007 after President Obasanjo had concluded, his tenure stated, that though he came from the same South - West zone like the former president, he wanted to rule a United Nigeria.
He said that Nigeria would not be regarded as a nation if the presidency was being zoned to a section of the country, adding that we should be looking forward to a president of united Nigeria.
According to him, “Nigeria would not be regarded as a nation if the presidency is being held turn by turn by the various ethnic group in the country. We want a united Nigeria and we are looking forward to have a president of united Nigeria.”
