OSHOGBO—OSUN State Police, on Wednesday, while trying to rescue the Oshogbo branch manager of Guaranty Trust Bank, GTB, Mr. Adeyeni Adeniji, shot dead two of the alleged kidnappers. The banker was reportedly picked in front of his house in Ile-Ife. He was freed un-harmed.

Six other members of the gang including a female were arrested and said to be helping the police command in its investigation into the kidnap saga.

It was gathered that the gang might have trailed the bank manager to his private residence in Ile-Ife from Osogbo after the day’s work.

Members of the community who saw the victim kidnapped could not save him as his captors succeeded in taking him away to Area “5” forest reserve in Ile-Ife along Ondo road.

The police however swung into action immediately the incident was reported at More Police Station in Ile Ife.

An eye witness said the first vehicle the kidnappers used to kidnap Adeniji developed a fault and was abandoned while another vehicle snatched at gun point by the gang also developed fault before they opted for a motorbike with which they ferried away their victim.

The police however in the early hours of yesterday following a tip off, swooped on the kidnappers and their victim in the forest and shot dead two of the kidnappers, while Mr Adeniji was rescued.

State Commissioner of Police, Mrs. Helen  Adeyemi, confirmed the incident, saying it took men of her command several hours to rescue the victim from the kidnappers.
