4 get 21-yr jail term for stealing cocoa in Ipetumodu

An Osun State High Court sitting in Osogbo, the state capital, on Friday, sentenced a four-man robbery gang to 21 years imprisonment.

The convicts are Omotayo Sunday, Kamoru Satoye, Biliaminu Alalade and Fatai Muraina.

The four accused persons were at first arraigned before the Osun State High Court, Ile-Ife Judicial division on June 11, 2013 and were later transferred to the High Court, Osogbo.


They were charged on a two-count charge of conspiracy and armed robbery.

According to the prosecution team from the Ministry of Justice, “the accused persons forced their way into Obalosun cocoa store in Ipetumodu, Osun State, on October 20, 2010, disarmed and macheted the night guard on the head, tied him up and went away with 20 bags of refined cocoa beans, valued at about N462,000.”

Hearing of the case began on June 11, 2013 with the prosecutor having three witnesses and exhibits tendered.

However, the accused persons didn’t call any witness apart from the individual testimonies which they gave in their defences.

Delivering his judgment, Justice F. E Awolalu convicted four of them on a two-count charge of conspiracy and robbery and sentenced them accordingly.
